Our Philosophy

Established in 2006, The Penguin Swim School focuses on water safety as a vital life skill. We are a certified member of the United States Swim School Association. Our private and semi-private instruction takes the anxiety out of swimming by enabling your child to learn at his or her own pace in a highly supervised setting. Unlike group lessons, our instructors are able to dedicate 100% of their attention on your child and their exact needs. All of our instructors are trained with decades of combined experience teaching swim lessons. There is always a certified lifeguard present at all lessons. Our staff works as a team to provide a safe and secure environment to encourage your child to reach his or her fullest potential.

The scary truth is, every year nearly 300 children under the age of 5 drown in swimming pools. 98% of the time these drownings occur in private back yard pools. Further, more than 2000 individuals are treated in hospitals for submersion related injuries. Our goal is to prevent injury and loss of life through our proven technique!

Meet Our Staff

Gwynne

Gwynne is the Owner of The Penguin Swim School. She created this program in 2006 to provide the local community an alternative to traditional groups lessons. Gwynne has always been in the pool, swimming competitively during her years in school, and teaching lessons well after.
She has a BA and MBA in Marketing and for years she worked in advertising in NYC. Of all the job titles shes held, her favorite has always been Mom! Having raised three kids along the
shoreline of Connecticut she recognized the necessity for such a program. She believes that her individualized approach is the best method to keeping all kids safe near the water.

She learned to swim at a young age, swam competively for a few years, and even learned to scuba dive!  She earned a BS in Marine Science from Stony Brook University. Andrea is a natural born teacher. Shes been teaching swim lessons for over a decade. Recognizing the individual abilities of each of her students, she designs her lessons to build on their skills while providing the emotional support for them to succeed with confidence.
